Half the screen was a keyboard

Rebuilding 18 health-risk profilers for phones. We tried reskinning first. It didn't help, because every dropdown summoned a keyboard or a scroll wheel that ate half the screen. Big tap targets did: completion went from 27% to 50%, and time to finish dropped from 6:22 to 2:49.

Every screen exists because a system needed something from a person. As AI gets better at working things out on its own, most of those screens go away. The ones left are where a person needs something back: to see what it did, to trust it, to stop it.
I mocked one up for a travel agent. It only asks for my call when it's spending money or when two of my own rules disagree. Everything else is a log with an undo button.

Past Work

A national brand, one local store

Whole Foods was turning a former Piggly Wiggly on Hilton Head Island into one of its stores. The brief: a shopper should recognize the island as they recognize the brand. That meant hand lettering, coastal line-art icons (an octopus, a pelican, an alligator), and a 94-page fabrication set covering all 15 departments.
